"One More Year For Astroland"
Here's an article I came across in an issue of AM New York, dated
Thursday, October 25, 2007, while I was visiting family in Brooklyn. The
newspaper containing this article was left behind in a subway car, on a
seat across from me, and would have gone in the trash. Needless to
say, I'm glad I checked out this paper. It mentions that Coney Island's
Astroland Amusement Park will be open for one more season, with the
exception of The Cyclone and Wonder Wheel, which are New York City
landmarks. The abandoned Parachute Jump, which was closed in the
late 60's, is also a landmark as well, so that will never be demolished.
Meanwhile, the local news in New York reported on tv also reported this same week that this would be the final season for the rides, so get out to Coney Island next year. Click HERE for tourist information so you can plan your vacation early. The article mentions the rides will open on March 16th, and stay open until September, 2008. After reading this article, check out my site "Coney Island Memories", in my Pingeek News Archives. Another interesting story is The Coney Island Dreamland Fire. I also have several photos of Coney Island from the past few years which will be online soon. Enjoy! Pingeek. |
