The 2004 Texas Pinball Festival

Friday, November 5th - Sunday, November 7th

Holiday Inn Select, DFW North, Irving Texas

This was all a last minute thing for me. I had just gotten back from a second trip to "Old Sled Works" in Duncannon, PA, and "The White Rose Gameroom Show," (The York Show), a couple weeks before that. I knew the Texas show was coming up soon, but had no intention of driving almost 24 hours each way. I was able to get a last minute flight and hotel room, with a brand new JVC mini dv camcorder in hand, along with my Sony digital Mavicam and 35 mm Walgreens camera. I have to say, this was the most fun I've ever had in 24 hours!

Thanks to Chris Munson, Bob Herbison, and the rest of the crew for their hospitality and the time of my life. Thanks to pinball artists Kevin O' Connor and Margaret Hudson for the classic pins they helped produce over the years, the great seminar, and letting me hang out with them (I am not worthy).

I have arrived. My plane landed around 9:30 am Texas time. It had left from Richmond, VA at 6:00 am. My arms are ready to fall off! I have on the left arm, a steel tripod in the duffel bag, and on the right arm, my knapsack with clothes, etc., and my camcorder bag.

This 1978 Bally "Bobby Orr Power Play" pin sold for $750, fully shopped, with rebuilt MPU.

This Bally "Space Invaders" playfield makes a great wall hanging. Also, inside the show this year, I found better used plastics decently priced for my "Alien Poker" game, years before repro plastic sets would exist for these games.

If you were at the show this year, not only could you have played "KISS."

.

"The Simpsons Pinball Party."

"NBA Fastbreak."

.

You also could have met the artists, "Kevin O' Connor," and "Margaret Hudson," who one or both did the art work for several pins from Bally through some of the most recent Stern pins.

I played this for the first time ever at this show.

It's got race cars...

Wacky art.

more race cars...

and even more race cars.

"Queen Of Diamonds" was also at the show, featuring roto target backglass animation.

The playfield looks great, especially...

...in the dark.

"Wagon Train" was also at the show...

...featuring detailed art work.

On the right, a row of brand new Stern "Elvis" pins, most likely for the tournament.

It's "Tommy" x 2.

See you next year!
