The York Show 2008

Here's a classic Gottlieb card themed pin.

It was a real treat getting to play a Gottlieb "Atlantis" pin. It was the first pin I remember playing in a Coney Island arcade when pinball became legal again in NY in 1976.

"Atlantis" was released in January, 1975. In September, 1975, Playmatic released a pin titled "Fairy." Compare this pic of "Atlantis" to "Fairy" at the Internet Pinball Database.  Notice some similarities in the art work.

This game features ten drop targets and a bunch of lanes with rollovers.

One of the coolest EMs at the show had to be this fully restored Williams 1964 "Wing Ding" pin.  I'd never seen a working example of this pin until now. Yet another pin designed by the legendary Steve Kordek.

This pin features backglass animation.  This game is referred to as a reverse wedgehead. Compare this design to the "Atlantis" pin a couple rows up on this page. Also, this is actually the add-a-ball version of "Zig Zag."  The Internet Pinball Database mentions that there were only 626 "Wing Ding" pins made.

The playfield has three pop bumpers making for a pretty fast playing 60's EM.

Colorful cabinet art.

In the mid 80's, there was a small arcade in Richmond, VA by the name of "Golden Dome."  I remember "Haunted House" sat beside a newer pin, "F-14 Tomcat."  It was always "Haunted House" though, that I dropped my quarters into.

Featuring creepy art, creepy music, cool sound effects...

...and a three level playfield, it is, in my opinion, one of the best Gottlieb solid state pins ever made.

It was an exciting time for all. See you at the next show! Pingeek.
