The York Show 2008

Here's a shot of "21's" playfield.  With three "Jet" bumpers, it plays pretty fast.

Overall, this game was in pretty good shape, both mechanically and cosmetically.

This Exhibit 1948 "Jamboree" pin was one of the oldest at the show.

No idea who did the artwork for this backglass, but it's pretty good.

Notice four flippers and where they are located.  Trivia:  The first pin to feature two flippers and have them placed at the bottom of the playfield was Genco's "Triple Action," designed by Steve Kordek and also released in 1948.

You rarely see Exhibit pins complete and working.  Typically they are missing the backglass, legs, coin door, and sometimes even the ball lift mechanism and/or shooter housing.

Another rarity was this Williams 1953 "Palisades" pin.

The Internet Pinball Database does not list who did the artwork for this backglass, but again I'm guessing it was George Molentin.

Check out the unique wooden coin door and coin chute.

This was one of the few Williams' pins that had "automatic" flippers.  In other words, when the ball lands in the pocket in front of either the left or right silver flipper, that flipper automatically flips.  The red flippers are manually operated.  Williams' "Twenty Grand," released in 1952, also has the automatic flipper feature.

Here's the back of "Palisades."

There were also solid state and dot matrix pins.  I grew up during the transition from electromechanical to solid state pins, so the next pin to check out was of course "Paragon."

Classic Paul Faris art.  Goes great beside "Lost World," which was also at this show. I played both at the local 7-11 when I was a kid.

TRIVIA:  There was a "Paragon" pin briefly visible during the arcade scene in the movie "Death Wish 2."  This cabinet art is what gave it away.

The was the first pin I played on location that featured in-line drop targets.  It was actually the first pin with in-line drop targets and the first Bally wide body pin.

There was also Gottlieb's 1995 "Waterworld," released just a year before this company went out of business.
